This month NSEMM crossed 4,000 hours of free and pay-what-you-can tutoring delivered since the charity's founding in 2020 — a milestone reached entirely through volunteer student tutors.
“Every one of those hours represents a student who showed up, and a tutor who gave their time for free or next to nothing,” said the programme lead. “That's the whole model working exactly as intended.”
Over 120 students have shown measurably better grades since starting with an NSEMM tutor, and the average family saves £185 a term compared to market-rate tutoring.
The team is now focused on expanding the library partnership network beyond Nottingham, with Edinburgh launching this term and two further cities in scoping.
Volunteer tutors are always welcome — no experience needed, just a subject you're confident in and a couple of hours a fortnight.
